Who is Dawn Averitt?

Dawn Angel Averitt is a skilled and confident explorer of our bodies’ resilience, a believer in our adaptive capacity, and a fundamentally hopeful champion of living and loving the life we choose.

Dawn has guided clients in recovery for the last 11 years. After working in several treatment centers, Dawn Angel found that her clients told stories with a consistent theme about the impact of trauma on their lives. With this discovery in mind she began her extensive training.

Unsatisfied with the traditional therapy models She began her three with Somatic Experiencing (SE) Trauma Resolution and, she recognized a passion and the potential for this work. After completing her SE training, She studied Kathy Kain’s SE Touch Skills. Still searching, she studied with Raja Selvams, PhD, as a student of Integral Somatic Psychotherapy (ISP) which offers an integrated and advanced approach to utilizing the long-overlooked dimensions of the body, energy, and awareness.

ISP lead her to Bodynamic Developmental Psychology, a seven-staged theory of human developmental providing a detailed description of how experience is encoded in both mind and body through the lifespan.

Having been blessed already with the opportunity to study with these talented healers, she felt elated when Dr. Larry Heller decided to bring his work to the US. Dawn Angel began her 2 year journey studying the NARM-Neruo Affective Relational Model. NARM emphasizes working clinically with the functional unity between biological and psychological development, integrating a relation, psychodynamic approach with a nervous system based orientation.

Dawn not only works in individual sessions, she also facilitates Mind-Body Medicine Groups, facilitating change using a treatment modality developed by Dr. James S. Gordon, a Harvard educated psychiatrist. Mind-body skills reduce stress and restore physical and psychological health. The mind-body approach heals individual trauma and builds community-wide resilience.

Speaking of Community, Dawn also enjoys volunteer work, most recently with Buds to Blossoms; an Non-profit organization that brings healing touch to Orphans in Vietnam who are diagnosed as HIV+. She hopes that her training in SE Based Foundation Disaster Response will also bring more opportunity to help individuals and by extension the world.
